Matter
Matter devices can be joined to multiple eco-systems, or “fabrics” in Matter parlance, at the same time. This so-called “multi-admin” feature is a key benefit as it facilitates building heterogeneous environments with Apple, Google and Amazon controllers all managing the same set of devices. While this was possible before, it took device manufacturers a considerable amount of effort to integrate various proprietary protocols and maintain these integrations.
What Matter is not
In more advanced settings this would require some sort of hub, gateway, smart speaker, smart display, set-top-box, or computer that provides the edge intelligence required to make the home or building smart. Another aspect is that Matter controllers are very loosely defined in terms of the minimum features and application domains they must support. Whether a controller supports lighting, shading, security, safety, energy management, audio and video streaming, doorbells and surveillance cameras is entirely up to the manufacturer of the controller. So, the simple equation of “Matter logo on the product + Matter logo on the controller = decision is clear” unfortunately does not hold true, yet.
Matter and Zigbee – how do they fit together?
Whether or not other transport technologies can achieve the same level of energy efficiency, performance and resilience in harsh wireless environments remains to be seen.
Capabilities of ubisys Conflux
The Conflux Zigbee to Matter bridge exposes devices on a Zigbee network to Matter controllers. This allows control of Zigbee lights and actuators from any compatible Matter controller including real-time status feedback. Also, Matter controllers can subscribe to data gathered by Zigbee sensors, including maintenance-free Zigbee Green Power sensors.
Conflux supports a variety of diverse device types. We are constantly adding support for more device types and features, so check in regularly for the most recent information.
Currently supported device types:
- On/off lights
- On/off plug-in units
- On/off light switches
